As a seasoned PADI Instructor, you have wisdom and experience to share with up-and-coming PADI leaders. And, you know that continuing your education never ends. As an Instructor Development Course (IDC) Staff Instructor, you help bring up the next generation of PADI Instructors while gaining in-depth instructor-trainer knowledge. Because IDC Staff Instructors are an integral part of the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC), you set the stage for moving on to PADI Course Director as you present topics in the IDC and help shape PADI Divemasters and Assistant Instructors into PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors Many of dive center or resort management positions require this level of Instructor experience and training, making this an important step if you are considering a career in Dive Center or you want to open a dive shop or resort. The PADI IDC Staff Instructor Course, which may be completed in as little as three days, is designed to provide PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainers with additional training necessary to staff PADI Instructor Development Programs and conduct Assistant Instructor courses. This program will make you a valued asset to PADI Five Star and Five Star IDC Centres and increase your earning potential as an instructor. For those who have your own facilites, you can provide further education and guidance to your Divemasters who wish to become PADI Instructors. The goals of the PADI IDC Staff Instructor course are to: - Gain familiarity with PADI Instructor Course standards, curriculum and procedures.
- Gain familiarity with PADI Assistant Instructor course standards, curriculum and certification procedures.
- Develop evaluation skills to an effective and consistent level.
- Develop counselling and critique skills to an effective level.
- Develop presentation skills to a role model level.
- Prepare the candidate for staffing PADI Instructor Development Programs.
Prerequisites: To enrol onto the course you must: - Hold a Master Scuba Diver rating
- Be renewed and in teaching status as a PADI Instructor
DIVE EQUIPMENT: For the course you will need full dive equipment suitable for pool (or confined water) and open water sessions. Your equipment must be in full working order and have been serviced in accordance with the appropriate manufacturer's guidlines. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: To be certified as an IDC Staff Instructor you must: - Demonstrate acceptable performance on the Instructor Preassessment Exam.
- Demonstrate acceptable performance on the Assistant Instructor Standards Exam.
- Score 80 points or higher on the 20 skills on the PADI Skill Evaluation.
- Score a 4.0 or higher in a Knowledge Development teaching presentation.
- Score a 4.0 or higher in a confined water teaching presentation.
- Attend four Knowledge Development classroom sessions.
- Demonstrate consistency in teaching evaluation scoring by:
- Scoring within +/- 0.4 on two out of three knowledge development teaching presentation evaluations.
- Scoring within +/- 0.4 on two out of three confined water teaching evaluations.
- Scoring within +/- 0.5 on two out of three open water teaching evaluations.
Once the above requirements have been met you must complete one of the following options: Option A: Audit a complete IDC - where you will observe all training segments. Option B: Practical Application - where you will present all seven PADI Assistant Instructor course curriculum components, scoring at least a 3.5 on each presentation evaluated using a Knowledge Development Evaluation Form.
