Are you looking for something extraordinary? To do something others can only dream of? To help people transform their lives? To open doors you didn’t even know existed? All of this, and more, awaits you as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor. The Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program is one of two distinct components of PADI’s Instructor Development Course (IDC)—the core of PADI Instructor training. The first portion is the Assistant Instructor course followed by the Open Water Scuba Instructor program. The OWSI program is a minimum of four days. It introduces you to the entire PADI System of diver education and concentrates on further developing your abilities as a professional dive educator. Our five day Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) Program (instead of the usual four day program) starts from the moment you book on, with access to our Course Director for guidance and preparation. As this is a performance based course extra time may be scheduled. The program is available to PADI Assistant Instructors and to Instructors from other recreational diver training agencies who wish to cross over. We take pride in our program focussing on "real world" information and skills rather than just passing the Instructor Exam (IE). This will make you a more employable and valuable asset to a Dive Centre and also be of help to those who wish to set up on their own. Successful completion of the OWSI Program will allow you to attend a IE and successful completion of the IE will result in certification as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor. Our PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor course is conducted through PADI 5 Star IDC Centres. To enrol on the OWSI you must: - Be certified as a PADI Assistant Instructor or as a current instructor member in good standing with another recreational diver training organisation for at least six months.
- Submit a medical, conducted within the last 12 months, which states you are fit for diving (the medical must be valid for the IE).
- Have been certified for at least 6 months as a diver with a minimum of 60 dives (100 dives are required to attend the IE).
- Submit proof of CPR and First Aid training within the last 24 months. Prior to certification as an OWSI you must be an EFR Instructor or equivalent.
- Submit documentation of certification from entry level to leadership level.
- If not a PADI Divemaster, successfully complete the PADI Divemaster course diver rescue skills assessment.
