The Fish Identification speciality will teach you how to identify and survey common families and species of fish in whichever environment you find yourself, tropical or temperate, marine or freshwater. You will also gain an overview of preservation and survey techniques and learn how important it is that all divers take an interest in fish conservation.
During the course you will be introduced to:
- Information about how to protect aquatic ecosystems worldwide
- Fish family groupings and common characteristics of fish species in the local area
- Fish surveying techniques and strategies for collecting valid information
- How to plan, organise and identify fish families and species underwater.
Your course consists of independent study, classroom presentations and discussion with your instructor and two open water dives. During the Open Water dives at Wraysbury Dive Centre you will have the opportunity to see numerous species of fish including pike, tench and perch and learn how they interact with each other and the surrounding ecosystem. To take part in this course you must be an Open Water or Junior Open Water Diver (or hold an equivalent certification from another training agency) and be at least 10 years of age.
