Underwater Navigation

Do you want to be the diver the everyone wants to follow……….and not just because you remembered the compass?  Being able to navigate well will not only make you a good buddy but it will also help you stick to your dive plan, save gas and give you a massive sense of accomplishment.  During the navigation speciality you will not only master the use of a compass but you will also learn how to use the environment to find your way around.
What does the course consist of?

Your Underwater Navigation course will consist of:

Knowledge Development: Through homework, and the vast knowledge of your Learntodive PADI Instructor you will learn about –

  • Different navigation patterns, what they are used for and their limitations
  • How to use a compass – properly!
  • How to navigate using the natural environment
  • How to ‘mark’ or relocate a submerged object or position from the surface
  • How to make an underwater map
  • Ways of estimating distance underwater

Your newly acquired knowledge will be put into practice during three open water dives.

Things to do after you qualify: Go on dive trips
At Wraysbury Dive Centre we organise dive trips both at home in the UK and abroad.   Trips are organised for all levels of diver.  Just keep an eye on our trips page here and on our facebook page for upcoming events.
Things to do after you qualify: Buy dive kit
You may have already bought your first dive toys but if you have not, you may be considering making that first purchase.  We would always recommend that you purchase your dive equipment from a dive shop rather than shopping online (and its not just because we have a dive shop on site).  Buying in person allows you to try things on so that you get the right fit, get the right advice and kit for the type of diving that you intend to do and benefit from the experience of those that actually go diving.  You may also end up with a better deal than you imagined.
